In a country torn asunder, from the Canadian border to the Texas gulf, Maryland to New Orleans, brave men and loyal women fought, survived and loved. From the battlefield of Antietam to the Red River Campaign, Americans saw their lives turned upside down. Only love could set things right!
Union and Confederate soldiers, spies, blockade runners, opera singers, battlefield nurses and those left behind to hold down the homestead are center stage in these stories of love and danger during a period of corsets, hoopskirts and gentlemen callers.
Six talented writers provide something for everyone--in love and war.
Northern Roses and Southern Belles has been rated in the Top Ten in the Preditors and Editors Poll! (#6 actually!)

4 Stars from Romantic Times Book Reviews
Excerpt:
Noble and brave men, relentlessly loyal women, scalawags and blockade runners all combine to highlight one of the most difficult times in our country's history. All the stories are good, but Ross and Roman deliver scalawags that will make readers swoon. Civil War buffs will love the well-written, well-researched stories in this must-have collection.

The plot and the scenery were great. I felt like I was in the story, which seems to be common with this anthology. Isabel Roman did a great job.

I liked Jack immediately for his ability to protect and pursue Marion without compromising her enthusiasm. I found Ms. Roman’s tale a fantastically enjoyable story.

This well-written story was hot enough in spots, and it's more sexy not to reveal everything and allow the reader's imagination to take over.

“Miss Shelton?”
Turning at the crisp English voice, Marion’s lips curled upwards into, what she imagined, a most obnoxious smile. As handsome as she remembered, tall, muscular, tanner now. His nose, once broken, added a roguish charm to his face.
“I saw you enter the hotel just a short while ago,” she said.
Off balance with his sudden appearance no matter how she hoped for it, she said the first thing that came to mind. And winced at the admission.
“You didn’t call out to me?” Jack’s grin was wicked, and her heart raced at the sight. “I’m heartbroken.”
Marion walked to one side of Jack, feeling awkward and exposed in front of the hotel. Her Aunt was going to hear of this. Glori always did.
“I have a reputation for breaking hearts, Mr. Harrison.” She nodded in the general direction of Bay Street. “I couldn’t miss the morning post.”
“I would’ve happily accompanied you on your walk, Miss Shelton. We haven’t given the town gossips enough to whisper about these last months,” Jack irreverently stated.
